Billy Chi-hing Kwan, Chairperson
June 2008
Accomplishments
Winter program on the joint Metropolitan Museum of Art and ARTstor initiative on Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) at the Met., co-sponsored with ARLIS/NY: On February 5, 2008 Nancy Allen, Director of Museum Relations of ARTstor, gave an overview of the scope and nature of the IAP project and a live demo of the IAP interface, followed by a presentation by Billy Kwan, Associate Museum Librarian/Systems, on usage statistics. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion with questions from the audience. More than 80 members/staff from VRA/NY, ARLIS/NY, CAA and the Met attended the program.
Summer Meeting & Program: On June 11, 2008, the Greater New York Chapter held its Spring/Summer Business Meeting at ARTstor’s Midtown office at 61st St. Billy Kwan assumed the position of Chairperson, and Sarah Goldstein of Vassar—running unopposed—assumed the position of Vice-Chairperson. Barbara Treitel volunteered to continue her term as Secretary/Treasurer. The meeting was followed by a lively discussion on social tagging and a wine and cheese reception on the Metadata Terrace of ARTstor. Members of the ARLIS/NY Chapter were invited to the social tagging event and reception.(meeting minutes).
Goals
Fall Meeting: A tentative program on digital image preservation was suggested at the Summer Meeting. NYU may have the expertise and venue for the program. Billy Kwan and Sarah Goldstein will work with Jenni Rodda and Sherman Clarke of NYU on the logistics. Details of the Fall Meeting and Program will be announced.
