Greater New York Chapter Report for the VRA Board’s Annual Meeting

Jenni Rodda, Chair
17 January 2006

Accomplishments

The Greater New York Chapter held a lively fall meeting this past November a the Institute of Fine Arts. At the meeting, the parameters of local and national Association membership were discussed (a continuation of the discussion held at the June 2005 meeting). Committees to review the Chapter’s by-laws and local travel awards applications (including that sponsored by the Education Committee) were formed. Elections for Chair and Secretary/Treasurer will be held at the next meeting, which is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Metropolitan Museum shortly after the Baltimore conference. The business meeting was followed by a preview of the “Educating the Educators” workshop to be held at the conference, and lively discussion.

The primary accomplishment to come from the fall meeting is approval for the distribution 3 local travel awards from Chapter funds, in addition to the workshop grant underwritten by the Education Committee. Those awards will be announced at the end of January.

Goals

For 2006: to review and clarify the Chapter’s by-laws; to continue to provide timely programs in a convivial atmosphere to local Chapter members; to continue our outreach to new professionals within our geographic area.

Board Action Requested

None.

Our chapter’s by-laws stipulate that local dues for the current calendar year are collected until February 15th. We will not have a list of members current for the 2006 membership year for another month. A list of members for 2005 was attached to the Chapter’s mid-year report, and a list of members for 2006 will accompany our next report.

Respectfully submitted,

Jenni M. Rodda
Chair, Greater New York Chapter

Response of the Visual Resources Association to Annual Report

Thank you for your report on the Greater New York Chapter. The Board approved the report at the annual meeting in Baltimore. We appreciate the work you have done as Chapter Chair. The Chapter continues to provide stimulating meetings for its members; the preview of the conference workshop 'Educating the Educators' was a great way of extending conference offerings on the local level. We are very pleased that the Chapter was able to offer three travel awards this year. The organization of committees to review the Chapter bylaws and local travel awards should prove to be an efficient way to accomplish these tasks.Your goals--to review the Chapter bylaws, to continue to provide programs of interest to Chapter members and to continue outreach to new local professionals--are all reasonable, and I am sure will be successfully achieved under your leadership.

The Board thanks you for your efforts on behalf of the Association. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions, concerns, or comments.

Sincerely,

Macie Hall, President,
Visual Resources Association
