Notes from the Fall 2007 Meeting

- Welcome (Sarah Goldstein of Vassar) 11:15
- Treasurer’s report, membership report (Barbara)
- Balance $1,280 in interest bearing savings account
- No additional expenses since spring meeting
- 37 active members for 2007
- Johanna will contact Trudy Levey for list of local members to National VRA Chapter
- Johanna will send out reminder letter for 2008 New York Chapter membership
- Website
- Johanna requested a volunteer with knowledge of Dreamweaver to replace Eric Wolf who has been maintaining and updating VRA/NY website until now
- Kristine Heid-Santiago volunteered for the web position and was accepted unanimously by all
- Eric offered to continue to help in the transition, now that our chapter’s incarnation as part of National Chapter. Kristine agreed to update the content and cleanup the VRA website to make it more dynamic to include upcoming events, meeting dates and minutes
- Travel Committee for VRA San Diego March – (Johanna)
- We discussed the two possible reasons why there were no applicants for the three awards offered last year
- It was decided to announce the award to the membership earlier this year to allow more time for applicants to respond. It was also decided that the amounts should be combined and increased to make it worthwhile to attend the conference
- After much discussion Barbara made a motion seconded by Sherman that the award be increased to $ 500 to defray the travel expense
- The Chair receives a subsidy from the National Education Committee for a free workshop. Johanna has offered to pass this second award to the recipient of the travel award with the understanding that the recipient will agree to present a workshop report to the Greater NY Chapter at the fall meeting
- Carol Lekarew and Dustin Wees volunteered to serve on the committee to judge the award applicants applications. Applicants need to be members in good standing of both National and Local chapters
- NY Chapter Support of National Conference – (Sherman)
- Sherman made a motion that we continue to support the National Conference and proposed that we send a $ 250 contribution from NY Chapter for the upcoming conference in San Diego
- Upcoming Events and Meetings (Billy and Johanna)
- Winter Event: Billy proposed that Nancy Allen of ARTstor make a presentation to VRA/NY regarding the collaboration between the The Metropolitan Museum of Art and ARTstor to provide Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) to scholars. Billy offered that the Met could host this event. There was also discussion about inviting ARLIS/NY Members to this event
- Spring meeting: Billy and Johanna proposed that the program should be based around the relationship between formal cataloguing and social tagging and there seemed to be general agreement that this would be of interest
- Spring meeting will be scheduled for late May, after the March VRA conference and the May ARLIS conference. Location TBD
- Officers for the Coming Year
- Elections for Vice Chair (one year term) and Treasurer/Secretary (two year term) will be held at our 2008 Spring Meeting
- Johanna encouraged members interested in either of these two positions to express their interest by contacting one of the current officers
- Barbara has agreed to continue in her position as Treasurer/Secretary unless someone expresses an interest
- Adjournment at 12:15 followed by lunch and Vassar Program (Sarah Goldstein)
- Buffet lunch was provided in the Jade Room in Taylor Hall
- Sarah Goldstein of Vassar VRL gave a tour of Vassar VRL and the Taylor Hall auditorium followed by a discussion of the evolution of digitization for the Vassar College Art Dept
- Guided tour of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center’s current exhibition, Hudson River Trilogy
- Guided tour of the Vassar Library
