Program
Number Attending: 25 (including Jenny Keen and Ann Thomas of the National VRA and Nancy Harm a Luna representative.
Guests were given a tour of the Visual Resources Collection and a demonstration of the database created and used by the Media Center for Art History, Archeology and Historic Preservation. Two of the projects were Art and Architecture in Venice and Les Demoiselle d’Avignon. This was followed by a Gallery talk, given by Professor Benjamin Buchloh, of the works on exhibit by Jean Fautrier in the Wallace Gallery.
Agenda for Business Meeting
Jenni Rodda chaired the meeting.
Attendance: 17 people remained for the business part of the meeting.
Jenni announced the need to nominate two officers to the Chapter Board, to replace Michelle Murray and Danika Folkart. Michelle has asked to resign as Chair of the VRA/NY Chapter due to her recent back surgery and Danika who held the position of Vice Chair has moved from the NY area and thus is no longer at the Bard Graduate Center. All in attendance expressed their concern for Michelle and wished her a speedy recovery. James Montieth nominated Dustin Wees to a one-year term as NY Chapter Chair. The motion was unanimously passed. Ayasha Abdur-Rahmon was nominated for the two-year position of NY Chapter Vice-Chair; Ayasha’s nomination was also passed unanimously. It is the responsibility of chapter officers to organize the biannual meetings.
In the past the NY/VRA pledged money to the National VRA. A motion was made and carried to send $300 from NY Chapter’s treasures to National. All with one exception voted in favor.
Last year the NY Chapter allocated treasury funds towards travel expenditure to the National Conference. Since Danika left her position, there has been no organizational push for travel. Last year $ 500 was awarded to Monique Safford to attend the VRA conference in St. Louis. Next year money will be offered toward travel expenditure to the National Conference. Chapter membership money continues to be applied to mailings and contributions toward food at our biannual meetings.
The National Education VRA committee awards $100 annually to each chapter to be designated toward attendance at a VRA workshop. Ayesha relinquished this year’s allotment of $ 100. In return for the grant the recipient is required to report back to chapter what has been gleaned from the workshop. No one will be accepting the grant this year.
Don Beetham from Rutgers has offered to create a NY Chapter website. Don suggested posting the membership list and the by-laws to the site. Steve Kowalik suggested that we consider asking Nancy Harn give a demonstration for Luna Imaging at our spring meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
Respectfully submitted.
Barbara Treitel
Secretary/Treasurer VRA/NY Chapter
