The purpose of the organization is to promote communication among national members of the Visual Resources Association within the New York metropolitan area.

The Greater New York Chapter Serves the Tri-State Area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Upcoming Events

Fall Meeting at NYU
A tentative program on digital image preservation was suggested at the Summer Meeting. NYU may have the expertise and venue for the program. Billy Kwan and Sarah Goldstein will work with Jenni Rodda and Sherman Clarke of NYU on the logistics. Details of the Fall Meeting and Program will be announced.

Notes from Spring/Summer Meeting 2008
On June 11, 2008, the Greater New York Chapter held its Spring/Summer Business Meeting at ARTstor's Midtown office at 61st St. The meeting was followed by a lively discussion on social tagging and a wine and cheese reception on the Metadata Terrace of ARTstor. Members of the ARLIS/NY Chapter were invited to the social tagging event and reception.

Winter program on the joint Metropolitan Museum of Art and ARTstor initiative on Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) at the Met., co-sponsored with ARLIS/NY
On February 5, 2008 Nancy Allen, Director of Museum Relations of ARTstor, gave an overview of the scope and nature of the IAP project and a live demo of the IAP interface, followed by a presentation by Billy Kwan, Associate Museum Librarian/Systems, on usage statistics. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion with questions from the audience. More than 80 members/staff from VRA/NY, ARLIS/NY, CAA and the Met attended the program.

Notes from Fall Meeting 2007
On October 19, 2007, the Greater New York Chapter held its Fall Business Meeting at Vassar College. The meeting was followed by a tour of the Vassar Visual Resource Library, the Taylor Hall Auditorium, the exhibition Hudson River Trilogy, and the Vassar Library.

Notes from Spring Meeting
On May 11, 2007, the Greater New York Chapter held its Spring Business Meeting at the New York School of Interior Design. The meeting was followed by a presentation and panel discussion on using Luna Insight's presentation software in the classroom. Architectural Historian Barry Lewis discussed his experience with the software and Eric Wolf and Christopher Spinelli of the NYSID Library discussed their roles in supporting instruction with the software.
