June 22 , 2006 Meeting
Swarthmore College, McCabe Library, 3rd Fl. Video Classroom

Attending:  Alice Bampton (Villanova U.)  Carol Campbell (Bryn Mawr College),  Susan Dreher (Swarthmore),  Nicole Finzer (Bryn Mawr College),  Heather Glaser (U. of PA), Laura Grutzeck (Univ. of the Arts),  Camilla MacKay (Bryn Mawr College), Monica McLaughlin (Rosemont College),  Virginia Restemeyer (Philadelphia Univ.),  Rick Sieber (Winterthur),  Mary Wassermann (Phila. Museum of Art).

The business meeting began at 1:30 pm. with Susan Dreher, Visual Resources Digitization Coordinator as local host. The Minutes of February 16, 2006 (delayed fall meeting) were accepted.

New business:

  1. Three members, Susan Dreher, Heather Glaser and Carol Campbell spoke about the some of the sessions they attended at the VRA national conference in Baltimore,
    March 6 -11, 2006.   Evan Towle spoke about attending a digital preservation
    workshop at Cornell. The interest of members continues to be on “shared cataloguing.”
  2. Camilla MacKay discussed her experience at a computing workshop in W. Mass., on digital images,  pertaining to MDID and ARTstor.  This opened a discussion by members regarding ARTstor and other digital resources.  ARTstor is said to need more subscribers soon to offset costs of development.  Issues continue for smaller institutions as to subscription costs and the present usefulness of ARTstor for institutions with specialized curricula such as architecture.
  3. Chapter dues $ 10.00 for 2006 was collected from all 12 persons attending. The Treasurer will send an e-mail receipt.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m. with light refreshments following.

The Program followed from 2:45 – 4 p.m.

Anne Yoder, Archivist of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection, presented selected visual materials from the Peace Collection, including 160 Soviet posters from the 1930s,
several hundred hand-tinted Japanese lantern slides (E. Raymond  Wilson Coll.),
and 1400 political buttons for peace.  She spoke about the organization and physical care, and demonstrated the public interface on the Tri-Colleges (Swarthmore-Haverford-Bryn Mawr Colleges) Library Special Collections “Triptych” (http://triptych.brynmawr.edu) using CONTENTdm with digital images.
