Annual Report 2004
Heather Glaser, Chairperson
January 7, 2005
Accomplishments:
Only one member was able to attend the 2004 conference in Portland, Oregon.
The spring meeting was held at Bryn Mawr College on Friday, April 2, 2004 with Carol Campbell, outgoing Chairperson, hosting and Heather Glaser presiding as incoming Chairperson. The guest speaker was Susan Shifrin. She presented an exhibit she organized entitled “Picturing Women.” The exhibit was a collaborative endeavor among three venues including Bryn Mawr College, the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Rosenbach Museum and Library.
On Friday, June 18, 2004 the Greater Philadelphia Chapter held a special event at Bryn Mawr College. As a test site of ARTstor, Joan Beaudoin of Bryn Mawr College hosted a demonstration of ARTstor for the chapter. Afterwards, individuals had time to work at a computer to experiment with ARTstor on their own.
The chapter's fall meeting was held at the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, December 3, 2004 with Heather Glaser hosting and presiding as Chairperson. Following the meeting, the group attended a tour of the exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art located on the Penn Campus.
During the meeting a new Secretary/Treasurer was elected. Carol Campbell volunteered to assume this position for at least the 2005 year for outgoing Secretary/Treasurer Alice Bampton. In addition, the group addressed several other topics during the meeting including:
- confirmation of the bylaw and dues changes
- workshop funds for this year's national conference
- use of this year's dues
- venues and topics for the Spring 2005 meeting
- a proxy for the chapter meeting at this year's national conference
During the year, two new operational changes were adopted. The chapter adopted a new dues statement reading:
The collection of dues by the VRA Greater Philadelphia Chapter will be:
- for the identification of chapter membership and filling offices.
- for support of future programming, such as speaker’s expenses (travel, accommodations, meals, honorarium), and/or the rental of program equipment or hall.
- for possible support for members to attend regional or national conferences, such as assistance toward registration or workshops, or support for professional development (workshops or seminars) in the area.
- for contribution to the support of the national VRA conference only when the treasury is judged sufficient to do so and the needs of the local chapter have been met.
And, the chapter revised Article V of its Bylaws. It now reads:
Article V. Nominations and Elections:
- The officers shall be elected from nominations received from the floor at the second meeting of the calendar year.
- Officers shall be elected by a plurality of votes cast by Chapter members.
Goals:
The Chapter will have a spring meeting which still needs to be planned.
Establish a checking account for the chapter or reach a consensus on how to use this year's dues.
