Accomplishments
This past year was a significant one for the Greater Philadelphia Area Chapter. In the course of the past year the chapter finalized its by-laws for submission to the Executive Board of VRA and received official recognition from the same governing body. Several chapter meetings took place during the year (March, June, and October) with steady membership attendance at each meeting. A mailing to area institutions was undertaken early in the fall in order to increase awareness of our chapter’s meetings. A chapter web page was created, which contains local membership information along with minutes of past meetings.
Susan Shifrin’s term as Chair came to an end in June, 1999 with Peggy Otten’s role as Secretary also coming to an end at this time. The position of chapter Chair was filled by Joan Beaudoin, with the role of Secretary passing to Rachel Beckwith. Formal election of these officers took place at the chapter’s first official meeting in October, 1999.
Goals
The chapter’s members have expressed a strong interest in focussing attention on educational meetings. While this goal has been met at past meetings with informal information swaps, it is hoped that in the coming year formal presentations will be a part of chapter meetings.
Financial Records
The chapter has waived the collection of dues from its members in lieu of their membership within the VRA. The costs associated with the fall mailing were paid for by Bryn Mawr College.
