VRA Great Lakes Chapter Spring Meeting Minutes
March 29, 2007, Intercontinental Hotel - Kansas City, MO
In attendance: Joseph Romano, Elizabeth Meyer, Kristi Happel Christian, Laura Paris, Stephanie Bernhardt, Lorrie McAllister, Astrid Otey, Sue Morris, Meghan Musolff, William Kennedy, Derrick Meads, Julia Chytil.
Chapter chair Joseph Romano called the meeting to order at 10:35am.
Membership: We briefly discussed membership (that the membership list on the website and the list of current members who have paid dues through 2006 are slightly different) and handed out membership forms. Lorrie McAllister will compile a complete list of members to send to Joe for the website and VRA-GL listserve. Lorrie will get updates from Astrid after the Spring meeting and notify Joseph Romano for website and listserve maintenance.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Astrid Otey submitted the following report:

Nomination Committee for New Chair: Joseph Romano will be stepping down at the end of his term as chapter chair, which ends at the end of 2007. A new chair needs to be elected. No nominations were made at the meeting. Joe Romano and Leslie Chapman comprise the nomination committee for a new chapter chair. Please contact them to nominate someone or if you are interested in running. Self-nominations are accepted. The term will encompass the 2008 and 2009 calendar years. Nominations will be made at the next fall meeting.
Fall Meeting Venue: Joseph Romano said that Marlene Gordon at the University of Michigan, Dearborn expressed interest in hosting the next VRA Great Lakes meeting (Fall 2007). No other members expressed interest in hosting a meeting. Therefore, the Fall 2007 meeting will be in Dearborn, Michigan, date to be announced.
Joseph Romano also mentioned that Leigh Gates at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago suggested that we meet jointly with VRA Midwest at some fall meeting, probably fall 2008. The venue would most likely be in their area since they had extended the invitation.
Approval of Fall Meeting Minutes: The minutes from the Fall 2006 chapter meeting on October 13th at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio were distributed at the meeting and were approved.
VRA Education Committee Workshop awards:The VRA will sponsor one chapter members attendance at one workshop at the annual conference each year. The only stipulation is that the member shares his or her experience at the workshop with the chapter. Lorrie McAllister received this award for her participation in the XML workshop. She will be sharing her experience at the next Fall meeting.
Chapter-level Annual VRA Conference Workshop awards: Our chapter has funds to sponsor workshop attendance. This year there were no responses to a listserve call for interested participants. The awards committee currently consists of Lesley Chapman, Astrid Otey, Joseph Romano, Jean Koeller, and Marlene Gordon. Members agreed that there should have been more reminders about these awards and a call for interested members should have been made earlier in the year to help conference attendees plan more effectively. We will post information about the awards to the listserve in the Fall.
There was no new business.
