VRA Great Lakes Chapter Fall Meeting Minutes
October 13, 2006, The Ohio State University, Columbus
Hosted by Stephanie Bernhardt, Nora Kilbane, Michelle Maguire, and Lorrie McAllister

In attendance: Stephanie Bernhardt, Suzanne Buchanan, Lesley Chapman, Nora Kilbane, Jean Koeller, Bryan Loar, Michelle Maguire, Elizabeth Meyer, Astrid Otey, Laura Paris, Carole Pawloski, Joseph Romano
Chapter President Joseph Romano called the meeting to order at 1:15PM.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Astrid Otey presented the following report: The chapter has received $30 income in dues since March. There have been $55 in expenditures; our current balance stands at $853.16.
Membership: The membership list on the website and the list of current members who have paid dues through 2006 are slightly different. We as a chapter are not as concerned about dues as we are about maintaining a VR community, so the web membership list will reflect current VR curators in the geographical region covered by our chapter who have participated in the chapter in the recent past, as well as current `active' members. As we decided last year, members who joined the chapter after the Spring chapter meeting on March 8, 2006 will have their dues waived through the end of the 2007 membership year. Also due to some confusion about new members over the course of this year, we are waiving renewal fees for the following 2006 members: Derrick Meads, Elizabeth Meyer, William Kennedy, and Amy Mans. Regardless of payment status, ALL members need to fill out a 2007 Membership Renewal form, available at http://www.oberlin.edu/art/vra/mform.html . Joseph will be sending out a reminder and deadline for membership applications to the chapter listserv in the near future.
Elections: Lorrie McAllister has accepted the nomination for the position of secretary for 2007-2008, and is running unopposed. Members present at the meeting agreed to elect her by acclamation rather than through a formal vote. We will be posting a message to the listserv asking for any objections to this arrangement, and if none are received by the specified deadline, we will simply elect Lorrie by acclamation. Joes term as president ends at the end of 2007, at which time he will step down and a new president must be elected. Joe and Lesley will be on the nominating committee; any other volunteers wishing to serve on this committee are welcome. This presidential term will encompass the 2008 and 2009 calendar years. If you are interested in running, please contact Joe or Lesley. Nominations will be made at the next fall meeting.
VRA Education Committee Workshop awards: The VRA will sponsor one chapter member's attendance at one workshop at the annual conference each year. The only stipulation is that the member share his or her experience at the workshop with the chapter. Contact Joseph Romano for more information.
Chapter-level Annual VRA Conference Workshop awards: Our chapter also has funds to sponsor workshop attendance. Last year we had 7 awards available, but only awarded one. We will offer these awards again this year for the 2007 Annual Conference in Kansas City, although there may only be 3 or 4 awards available. The awards committee currently consists of Lesley Chapman, Astrid Otey, Joseph Romano, Jean Koeller, and Marlene Gordon. If you would like to participate on (or step down from) the committee, please contact one of the officers. Keep in mind that if you serve on this committee, you are ineligible for an award for this year. Information about the application process and eligibility requirements for the chapter-level workshop awards will be forthcoming in a posting to the listserv.
Spring Meeting Minutes: The minutes from the Spring 2006 meeting, held March 8, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Inner Harbor, Baltimore, Maryland, were approved. These minutes may be viewed on the Chapter website at http://www.oberlin.edu/art/vra/glmtg030806.html
Spring Meeting: The spring meeting will be held, as usual, at the Annual Conference. The Fall meeting venue and date are usually tentatively set at this meeting. If you are interested in hosting the fall meeting, please contact Joseph Romano for more information.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 PM.
