VRA Great Lakes Chapter Fall Business Meeting

In attendance: 

Marsha Bansberg, Marlene Gordon, Marian Lambers, Astrid Mast, Elizabeth Meyer, Sue Morris, Meghan Musolff, Carole Pawloski, Joseph Romano

I. Welcome and Introductions

1. Meeting called to order by Chapter Chair Marlene Gordon.

II. Approval of Spring Minutes

1. Motion to approve Spring minutes made by Carole Pawloski; seconded by Astrid Mast/Sue Morris.
2. Motion passes and minutes approved.

III. Treasurer's Report: Astrid Mast, Chapter Treasurer

Balance as of July 20, 2011: $1387.28

No income or expenditures

Balance as of October 18, 2011: $1387.28

IV. Officer Elections

1. Chair
   1. Marlene Gordon is running unopposed for Chapter Chair.
2. Treasurer
   1. Elizabeth Meyer is running unopposed for Chapter Treasurer.

V. Bylaws Revisions

1. Change to note about election procedure (possibility of electing candidates by acclamation if only one candidate per office)
2. Similar to other Chapters
3. Marlene Gordon will send out an announcement to Chapter membership to approve the change to the bylaws.

VI. VRA Conference, Albuquerque

1. Chapter Basket
   1. Thank you to Elizabeth Meyer for organizing last year's Chapter basket
   2. For 2012, no auction and no Chapter basket
   3. In lieu of basket donations, the VRA Board has asked Chapters to make a donation to support outside speakers at the conference
   4. Joe Romano motions to donate $100 to the cause; Carole Pawloski seconds the motion; Motion passed
   5. Donation will be accompanied by a cover letter earmarking money specifically for outside speaker fund
2. Travel Grant
   1. No applications for Travel Grant last year
   2. Travel Award Commitee: Joe Romano, Elizabeth Meyer, Marlene Gordon
   3. Criteria for award: financial need, first-time attendance, workshop participation, contribution to the conference (e.g. speaker, moderator, workshop leader)
   4. Deadline for applications will be announced soon
   5. Carole Pawloski motions to approve the Travel Award in the amount of $400; Sue Morris seconds; Motion approved
3. Spring 2012 Meeting
   1. VRA National Conference, Albuquerque, New Mexico
   2. Friday, April 20, 6:00 p.m., Location TBA

VII. Fall 2012 Meeting Location

1. Fall 2012 meeting tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 5, in Detroit
2. Chapter meeting will coincide with MACAA conference
3. Possible locations for business meeting and coffee: Detroit Institute of Art, Kresge Court
4. Possible location for additional programming: Wayne State or College of Creative Studies

IX. Matters Arising

1. Capture presentations/reports from Chapter meetings for website
   1. Currently only capturing notes from Business Meeting
   2. Transition to capturing both Business Meeting AND overall Meeting event schedule
   3. Starting with Fall 2011 Meeting, Chapter Secretary will include both schedules on website

X. Adjournment

1. Carole Pawloski motioned for adjournment; Seconded by Marsha Bansberg
2. Meeting adjourned at 11:37
