VRA Great Lakes Chapter Spring Meeting

In attendance:

I. Call to Order
- Meeting called to order at 6:11 by Chapter Chair Marlene Gordon.
II. Approval of Fall Meeting Minutes
- Clarification made to VI, 1, 4 (cause=outside speaker)
- Motion to approve minutes made by Carole Pawloski
- Motion seconded by Elizabeth Meyer
- Fall meeting minutes approved
III. Officer Reports
- Treasurer Report
- Balance as of October 18, 2011: $1387.28 Income:
- Travel award ($400) will be paid from balance
- Miscellaneous fee is a bank statement fee (situation fixed)
Dues: $ 290.00
Expenditures:
Chapter Meeting: $44.18
Outside speaker donation: $100.00
Miscellaneous fee: $6.00
Balance as of March 31, 2012: $1527.10
IV. Committee Reports
- Membership
- Marlene Gordon reported that there are 8 potential new members
- Member candidates: Lawrence Tech
- Members in Pennsylvania: University of Pittsburgh, Mattress Factory, Carnegie Mellon
- Joan Beaudoin suggested creating a poster/handout to advertise Chapter to students
- Chapter Secretary Meghan Musolff will see what she has on hand and ask Chapter Membership for help
- Travel Awards
- Joe Romano reported that the Chapter awarded our first Travel Award of $400 to Astrid Mast
- Future awards
- Carole Pawloski raised the issue of having an award to attend SEI
- Committee would have to consider criteria, deadlines, etc.
- Discussion on topic will be opened up to the entire Chapter membership
V. Fall Meeting, Detroit
- Friday, October 5, 2012
- Meeting in Kresge Court, Detroit Institute of Art
- Bring cash for lunch
- $7 entrance fee for non-members to visit DIA
- Curator will be approached to do tour
- Build in time for museum visit
- A discussion of "Fair Use" is planned for the afternoon
- Marlene Gordon will check on prices for hotels in Dearborn
- Parking is $5 at the museum
- Possible library tour?
VI. Matters Arising
- Chapter Secretary Meghan Musolff asked those in attendance to send her pictures of Albuquerque for possible inclusion on the Chapter website
- Chapter asked to contribute as monetary sponsor of SEI
- Decision was made not to contribute
- VRA now has access to GoTo meeting
- Can be used to Chapter, but need two week advance notice
- Marlene Gordon mentioned Dearborn as a possible location for future national VRA conference
