VRA Great Lakes Chapter Meeting Minutes

March 8, 2005, Wyndham Resort, Miami Beach, Florida

Wyndham Resort

In attendance: Stephanie Bernhardt, Julia Chytil, Marlene Gordon, Dane Johnson, Nora Kilbane, Jean Koeller, Lorrie McAllister, Susan Morris, Astrid Otey, Laura Paris, Carole Pawloski, Joseph Romano.

Joseph Romano, Chapter Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. and welcomed all those present.

Astrid Otey gave a brief TreasurerÁZs report. There was $220 income from dues and the Ohio University meeting registrations, and $170 expenditures for Ohio University meeting expenses and a chapter donation to the national conference. The current balance in the treasury is $738.16.

Joseph proposed using some of our funds to support chapter membersÁZ attendance at conference workshops, creating a fund similar to the one offered by the VRA Education Committee. He suggested that we form a committee to determine the criteria for granting the award (i.e., member could not receive both the chapter and national award the same year; recipient must also present the results of the workshop content at a subsequent chapter meeting). He suggested we continue the discussion on the chapter listserv. He mentioned some of our attendees who were participating in special workshops at this conference, such as Julia Chytil, who went to the SEI session, and Astrid Otey, who attended the CCO Boot Camp using the Education Committee stipend. (Astrid will present the content of this workshop at our next meeting.)

Laura Paris suggested that we sponsor a student membership. This can be discussed further on the listserv and at our next meeting.

We discussed a location for the next meeting. Joe suggested that we meet at an institution in Michigan, since our last two meetings were in Ohio. Sue Morris volunteered to host a meeting at Michigan State University, in East Lansing. Marlene Gordon from the University of Michigan at Dearborn said she would possibly be able to host, depending on the date. Carole Pawloski at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti also said she would look into the possibility of hosting a meeting. Joe suggested continuing this discussion on the listserv also.

Eleanor Mannikka, from the University of Indiana in Pennsylvania, had contacted Joe about joining our chapter. She also offered to do an Adobe demonstration at one of our meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 a.m.

There was an interest in new memberships or renewals for Stephanie Bernhardt, Julia Chytil, Nora Kilbane, and Elizabeth Meyer, as well as Eleanor Mannikka.

The minutes for the previous meeting and current treasurerÁZs report were posted to the chapter listserv.
