Report from the Chapter President
January 7, 2004
Dear Mid-Atlantic Chapter Members,
A lot has happened in the last few months in our chapter, and I want to update you.
First of all, we have a new SECRETARY/TREASURER - Ann Burns, UVA Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library, was elected to be our chapter secretary and treasurer for the term of two years. Welcome, Ann!
I want to thank Susi Ridenour for her work during two terms of office. Susi, you have given the chapter so much of your time and energy, and we appreciate it.
Secondly, chapter members at the last two meetings have been discussing the VRA Board's directive to all chapters that chapter dues must be paid by chapter members. In light of this, the VRA Mid-Atlantic Chapter will charge dues, beginning in January 2004. Please remember that a current VRA membership is a prerequisite for becoming a member of a Regional VRA Chapter. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter member year will run from January - December. Dues will be $15.00 per year, payable to VRA Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
If You Have Not Already Done So, Please Mail Your Dues (Made out to VRA Mid-Atlantic Chapter) BY MARCH 1ST, 2004 to:
ANN BURNS
FISKE KIMBALL FINE ARTS LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
BAYLY DRIVE, PO BOX 400131
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA 22904-4131
What will you receive for your $15.00?
(a) voting privileges
(b) qualification to hold an office in the Chapter
(c) chapter meetings with an educational component
(d) speakers from within and from without the Chapter (e) the knowledge that one is supporting the ongoing success and initiatives of the Visual Resources Association through our Chapter donations to the national Association (f) ability to apply for VRA national travel awards (g) discounted registration fees for annual conferences
(h) discounts on slide labels through SlideScribe
(i) access to the member's only portion of the VRA website
(j) a network of local colleagues
Even those who do not pay their $15.00 dues will still have access to the Chapter meetings, Speakers, and network (at a per-meeting fee). In addition, by virtue of the VRA membership, one is accorded additional benefits such as the VRA Bulletin and access to the VRA-Listserv.
Please remember that both members and non-members may still have to pay extra for luncheons at meetings, as well as for those occasions where a special program (such as the Walters exhibit) might exceed what the hosting institution is able to cover.
FUTURE MEETINGS:
April 30th, 2004
July 18th, 2004
October 1st, 2004
Our April meeting will focus on building digital vs. analog collections; an overview of highlights of the VRA annual conference in Portland, and other activities.
Later meetings will include workshops from the VRA conference in Portland.
Our regional meetings respond to the needs of our Chapter -- How can we serve you better? Please tell us which issues or topics you would like to see explored more by sending an e-mail to Ann Whiteside awhiteside@virginia.edu or Ann Burns arb5w@virginia.edu.
We look forward to a great new year and look forward to seeing many of you at our meetings!
Happy New Year,
Ann Whiteside
