2) Treasurer’s Report
Meghan noted that there is approximately $550.00 in our checking account after making a $225.00 donation to the VRA National Conference.
3) Education Committee Stipend
Meghan will attend the Copyright Workshop during the conference and accepted the Education Committee stipend, which is a reimbursement of the workshop fee. She will report on the content of the conference at a future chapter meeting.
4) Mid-Atlantic Chapter contribution to the VRAffle
Liz thanked everyone for contributions to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter VRAffle “basket.” Our theme was “Mid-Atlantic Selections from the Silver Screen,” and included approximately 6 movies in DVD format, candy and popcorn.
5) Call for Papers for SECAC
Liz announced that Emy Decker of the Southeast Chapter put out a call for papers to be presented at SECAC (Southeast College Art Conference) in October 2007 on the theme of Cross-Campus Collaboration. Ms. Decker needs paper proposals by May 1st, 2007.
6) New chapter members
Liz discussed receipt of a list of new VRA National members from Steve Kowalik, including:
Venecia Zachary, Towson University
Eleanor Fink, World Bank
Karen Wyatt, Newseum
Gretchen Kennedy, Teaching Company
Ginny Kethcart, Arlington, VA
Lisa Robertson, Teaching Company
Stephen Tatum, Virginia Tech
Liz will send formal letters to these new members to encourage them to join the Chapter.
7) Upcoming 2007 Meetings
We discussed the location of the Fall Chapter meeting, which has been held jointly with the local ARLIS/NA chapter in the past. Liz was in touch with Kathy Woodrell at Library of Congress (ARLIS/NA chapter chair). ARLIS/NA will be meeting in Washington, DC at the National Gallery of Art for their fall meeting, and will open the invitation VRA Mid-Atlantic Chapter to attend. Liz would like to host a meeting in Charlottesville, and Meghan brought up the fact that it is potentially easier for members to travel farther distances during the summer than the fall.
We discussed several scenarios for upcoming meetings:
- Meet with ARLIS/NA chapter in Washington, DC in Fall 2007
- Meet with ARLIS/NA chapter during Summer 2007 in Charlottesville
- Meet independently of ARLIS/NA during Summer 2007
8) Program planning for Chapter
At the Fall 2006 meeting, we had a discussion of how to spend down the Chapter treasury. We revisited this topic and discussed spending the treasury on a presenter at the conference, or giving a stipend to a conference attendee.
9) Future of the chapter
Liz noted that the chapter is in transition, as a few of our members are in leadership roles in the national organization. We need to drum up interest in our region by sponsoring a social event or a workshop specifically for the chapter. Meghan mentioned an upcoming OCLC hosted workshop she is attending, and suggested we contact OCLC instructors, or ask specialists at our institution, to provide a specialized workshop for the chapter.
10) Collection of 2007 Chapter Dues
Meghan collected dues at the meeting and will send out an email reminder to current and potential members to send dues for 2007.
11) VRA Website and Chapter Website
The VRA website is under construction, and our chapter website is now out of our immediate control. Liz, as chapter chair, has not been contacted about making updates to our pages. We will be required to provide a list of chapters members. There may be a dictated template, or we may be able to customize this if members do not want their personal names listed. Liz will follow up with website administrators to clarify.
12) Elections
We will hold an election for the Chapter Secretary/Treasurer office in 2007, for the 2008-2010 term. A call for nominations will be made at the Fall 2007 meeting with an election to follow.
Meeting adjourned at 1:20pm.
