1. Ann Whiteside welcomed everyone to the meeting, and thanked Christina Updike and Sarah Cheverton, and Judith Thomas for their informative presentations.
2. The minutes of the last meeting (November 14, 2003 at Johns Hopkins University, hosted by Ann Woodward, Macie Hall and Meaghan Gross, and reported by Susi Ridenour) were approved (Christina moved, Cindy Frank seconded.)
3. Ann Burns, Secretary/Treasurer, reported that our bank balance as of 4/26/2004 was $412.95, and the number of dues-paying members as of 4/30/2004 was 21.
4. Discussion of the July 16th meeting - Cindy Frank tentatively volunteered to host the meeting at the University of Maryland, College Park. Suggested meeting topics included standards of quality for digital images and digital photography. Macie Hall tentatively volunteered her husband Jay, who is a professional photographer, to come and speak to the group. It was also suggested that Susan Jane Williams be contacted to come and speak to issues of quality standards.
5. Discussion of the October 1st meeting - This meeting will be a joint one with the ARLIS/NA DC-MD-VA Chapter, in Williamsburg, Va. This has been planned as an overnight meeting, and plans are in hand to find hotel space at a discounted rate. Pamela Hawkes volunteered to look into getting meeting space at William and Mary. ARTSTOR was suggested as a topic for the meeting. Another suggestion was ways to collect images from “outside the canon;” for example Islamic art and architecture, industrial design, Chinese and Asian art, and images collected by faculty in their areas of special interest.
6. Cindy Frank reported on her investigation of the chapter by-laws, and outlined several suggested changes. Among these were the establishment of reduced membership fees for students, language changes, and a change to the way chapter votes are gathered. She will re-write and submit her report, incorporating the comments of the chapter membership, for chapter vote.
The meeting adjourned at 2:30 PM.
