Call to order

Introductions – Attendees stated names and institutions and what they love about their jobs. Tina Updike spoke about the recent upgrades to MDID2.

Treasurer’s Report – Meghan Gross reported that we have $675.13 in the Chapter checking account.

Paypal – We are hoping to set up a PayPal account for the chapter. Meghan and Liz explained to attendees the options for using Paypal to collect chapter dues and the nominal fees involved. It was agreed among attendees that we should try out PayPal to see if it generates more memberships. Members will still be able to join or renew memberships by check or cash. Liz will explore the PayPal account types, how to get a PayPal button on our website, and ask the VRA Board for advice and approval. Lise Hawkos should be our Board contact as she oversees the VRA website.

Discussion of a Fall Chapter Meeting – Meghan stated that we are only required to meet two times per year, and the present meeting was our second meeting for 2007. October, which is our usual meeting month for Fall, and November are particularly busy for some members with other conferences, such as SECAC (Southeastern College Art Association) and MCN (Museum Computer Network). Kathe Albrecht was in contact with someone from the Department of the Interior about holding a chapter meeting there (Washington, DC), but was not sure she would be able to schedule a pre-visit before the end of the year. It was decided to not schedule a fall meeting, but perhaps have a tour of a facility, like the Department of the Interior, or tour a group of Visual Resources Collections in a particular area.

Elections - There will be an election held in the late Fall for the Chapter Secretary/Treasurer post. Meghan explained the duties of position. Nominees must be current chapter members. Because we will likely not have a fall meeting, nominations will be sought by email, and elections will be held by email, as usual. The term for Secretary/Treasurer is January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2009.

Announcements – Evan Towle from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter invites our chapter members to their Fall meeting to be held on October 26, 2007, from 1pm-4pm at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Emy Decker, chair of the Southeast Chapter, would like to organize another social event during the Conference in San Diego in March 2008.

Tina Updike announced that the VRC group from SECAC would be holding a meeting at that conference in October. The topic for the meeting is Institutional Resources and Connections on Campus. There will also be a business meeting and luncheon. Tina will send Meghan the meeting announcement to be distributed to our Chapter.

Liz announced that the Education Committee of the VRA would continue to sponsor one Chapter member’s workshop fees at the conference.

Chapter Programming – What topics should we discuss and focus on for future meetings? CCO, Subject Cataloguing, Facility Tour, Copyright?

Kathe suggested Peter Jaszi as a speaker or workshop leader on copyright issues.
Meghan briefly described the subject cataloguing workshop given by OCLC.

There was not time for a review of the Copyright Workshop held at the VRA Conference in Kansas City. Meghan will attach her notes from the Copyright Workshop to the meeting notes when they are distributed.

Meeting adjourned at 11:30 am
