1. Ann Burns, Secretary/Treasurer, reported that our bank balance as of 9/30/2004 was $439.76, and the number of dues-paying members as of 9/30/2004 was 23.

2. Elections for Chapter Chair – Ann Woodward submitted her name as candidate for Chapter President previous to this meeting; however, there were not enough members present to vote. Ann Burns agreed to send out an electronic ballot. (Ann Woodward was elected President by this ballot, with 14 members voting).

3. Planning for 2005 meetings – The membership agreed to hold three meetings in 2005. The first will be a social meeting, to be held at the annual VRA Conference in Miami, Florida. The second will be held in the Spring (tentatively May 20) and will involve pedagogical issues. Sarah Falls volunteered to host the meeting at the University of Richmond. A summer meeting was discussed and rejected because of the difficulty of scheduling around vacation times. The third meeting is to be held in the Fall, and the consensus of the group was that it would be valuable to have another joint meeting with ARLIS/NA DC-MD-VA. A location for this meeting has not yet been determined. [Update: The ARLIS chapter is actively pursuing a meeting in Washington D.C. at the Library of Congress.]

4. VRA 2006 – The annual VRA Conference in 2006 will be held in Washington DC, and a planning meeting will be held at the Miami conference, on Thursday March 10th from 7:30-9 AM in the Madrid Room of the conference hotel. All VRA Mid-Atlantic Chapter members may attend.

5. VRA President’s update – Kathe Albrecht gave an overview of the recent activities of the Association, including descriptions of some of the conference events, a report of the Board’s review of the Association’s bylaws, and the activities of the online membership services group. She also reported on the Association’s efforts to change its tax-exempt status from a C-6 to a C-3, a status which allows more flexibility in the Association’s activities.

The meeting adjourned at 5:30 PM.
