VRA-NE Fall Meeting, 2010 at Colby College

Program

* 9:30-10:15 Welcome, registration and light breakfast at Miller Library

* Morning program: ‘Mini-PechaKucha’ at Miller Library

o Introduction/exploration of the PechaKucha or “Lightning Round” presentation format and how this real-world social networking phenomenon is relevant to VR professionals looking to expand the reach of their expertise and stay current.

o Colby librarians and VR staff will present on topics relevant to the profession (our participation as an ARTstor Shared Shelf development partner, accommodating students’ visual learning styles, bringing one’s VR skills into the community, etc.)

* Lunch in Roberts Hall & Business Meeting

* Brief tour of Visual Resources Curator Maggie Libby’s Slide Library in the Bixler Art and Music Library

* Roundtable discussion: I hope to bring together folks from our libraries, the museum staff, and academic information technology services to discuss our shared experiences and issues related to visual resources (“doing more with less,” cross-departmental collaboration, rights issues, management systems, collaboration across institutions).

* 2:00 Colby College Museum of Art: tour with Elizabeth Finch, Lunder Curator of American Art and Lauren Lessing, Merkin Curator of Education. Beth and Lauren will give us an introduction to the breadth of the museum’s collection, recognized as one of the best college art collections in the United States.

* 3:00: close of meeting, more time in the museum encouraged

* 4:00: shuttle to downtown

*6:00 (doors, event at 7:20): PechaKucha Night Waterville at Hathaway Creative Center
