VRA Southeast Regional Chapter Meeting Minutes
March 26, 2011
Hilton Hotel, Minneapolis, MN - VRA-ARLIS Conference 2011
Those in attendance: Barbara Brenny – chapter chair, Mary Alexander, Chris Hilker, JJ Bauer, Martine Sherrill, Dawn Feavyour, Kristen Merryman.
The meeting was called to order at 5:10pm. Kristen Merryman made a motion to approve the minutes from the 2010 meeting in Richmond. They were 2nded and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: (presented by Barbara Brenny)
Our balance as of 3/4/11 is $445.04. We made a donation of $200 to sponsor the Icebreaker Party at the Walker Art Center on Friday 3/25/11. Membership is down from last year by around 40-50%. reason may be because the VRA conference and annual meeting was held in Atlanta in 2010. With the VRA membership linked to chapter membership this may have encouraged more people to join for that year, and this year they chose not to renew.
A motion was made to approve the treasurer’s report, 2nded, and approved.
Dawn Feavyour reported on plans she is making to host our annual meeting at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. It is scheduled for June 6-7, 2011. Rollins is a small liberal arts college of around 3500 students. They are building a new conference hotel on campus, but it will not be completed in time for this. The Orlando airport is the closest (40 min) and car rental is advised. Amtrak is another good option. The art department has provided support in the form of waiving all fees for room and liability insurance which is normally charged to outside organizations. Other groups on campus, such as the Library and IT, have expressed interest in providing support for meals, coffee breaks, and guided tours of the museums, archives, and special collections. Possibly we could have reports about SEI and other workshops/events attended by members this year.
Members will be polled on the VRA-SE listserv to estimate number who will be attending. It is already on the Rollins College website calendar, and will be on the VRA Facebook and chapter webpage.
Proposed Schedule:
June 6 – tour of VRC and art dept; chapter business meeting; professional development activities reports; lunch and downtown tour.
June 7 – Roundtable session on collaboration; tour of library archives; visit to Cornell Museum; lunch; Morse American Art Museum; possibly a boat tour; dinner
Barbara Brenny asked for suggestions on where to hold the midyear meeting in 2012 - possibly with SECAC?
Brenny made a motion to adjourn. JJ Bauer 2nded and all approved. Meeting adjourned at 6:02.
Respectfully submitted-
Martine Sherrill
