VRA Southeast Regional Chapter Meeting Minutes
October 22, 2010
VRA-SE Chapter Meeting held in conjunction with SECAC, Richmond, VA
Those in attendance: Barbara Brenny, Stephanie Witchger, Kelly Smith, Christine Hilker, Martine Sherrill and Pat Cosper.
The meeting was called to order by President Barbara Brenny. The minutes from the March 18, 2010 meeting were read and approved.
The secretary/treasurer, Pat Cosper gave her report. As of October 14, 2010, the last date any transaction occurred on the account, the balance was $547.04. An income for the year of $340.00 from dues was reported. It was noted that membership has doubled since January. Due to an increase in our account some ideas, such as a travel scholarship and awarding an honorarium to an upcoming speaker might be viable.
New Business: The upcoming meeting to be held in Winter Park, FL at Rollins College was discussed. The meeting is scheduled for June 6-7, 2011. It will be hosted by Dawn Feavyour. She is working on getting the expenses the chapter might incur down to zero. Her first report was that the college would charge us for the use of rooms, etc. Barbara Brenny told her that if that was to be the case we would have to go to another venue for our meeting. Barbara reported that Dawn had emailed her a proposed itinerary and some other suggestion. We discussed some ideas for programs and speakers but nothing definitive was decided. We will have an online discussion about program ideas. Some suggestions included having Dawn schedule someone local; appropriating programs from the VRA annual conference or the SEI workshop, and different types of training that would be instructional.
Other New Business: A new Chapter Chair must be elected at the beginning of next year, 2011. Barbara said that this election could be done online. Not many in attendance reported that they would be in Minneapolis for the VRA conference where we will hold our next chapter meeting. (Pat Cosper reported that she would not likely be attending and ask Martine Sherrill to please take the minutes at that meeting)
Old Business: We briefly discussed new member recruitment but noted that membership had increased tremendously and that this was probably due to the bundled membership imitative provided by VRA.
No further issues were discussed and the meeting was adjourned.
