ARLIS/NA - VRA Joint Conference Task Force
Following the 2011 Joint ARLIS/VRA Annual Conference in Minneapolis, in which our
organizations met jointly for the first time in ten years, the Boards of ARLIS/NA and
VRA entered into discussions aimed at laying the groundwork for future joint
conferences. Over the next several months, the conference financial and operational
infrastructures that exist for each organization were shared and analyzed by both
Boards. Out of these open and collegial discussions, a formal agreement was reached
that outlines the financial terms of joint conferences, including a distribution model
for sharing profits and losses. This document, which was ratified by both Boards in
the fall of 2012, capitalizes on the lessons learned from past joint conferences and
the ongoing collaborative track record of our two organizations.
The Joint Conference Financial Agreement calls for the formation of a Joint Conference
Task Force with "representation from both organizations who will analyze past joint
conference reports, highlight problem areas, define roles and expectations, and propose
a protocol for joint conference planning (with the exceptions of financial issues)."
The individual appointed to Chair this Task Force must be a current member of both
organizations. The report submitted by the Task Force will facilitate joint conference
planning once it is ratified by both Boards.
