[The statue was constructed and carved of 28 blocks of marble by the Piccirilli Brothers studio of Brooklyn, New York.] The over life-size, seated and meditative Abraham Lincoln (1914-1920) for the Lincoln Memorial (marble, dedicated 1922; Washington, DC), French’s most famous piece, became a national icon and crowned the artist’s long and celebrated career.
